Kaikoura

We stopped at a cafe on the way down the coast to Kaikoura. We went for a walk on the driftwood covered beach and soaked in the sea and sun.

We carried on down the coast to Kaikoura - passing a seal colony on the way. There were quite a few new pups shuffling around, crying for their parents.

Ending up at the 'Top 10 Holiday Park' we were squeezed in amongst lots of other campers. That made us determined not to use their services again - they are a chain of sites. The next day we went for a long walk around the bay and found another seal  posing for the public.

He was obviously moulting and rubbing himself against the concrete to get the old fur off. We headed back after that and stopped for lunch at a place which served crayfish - which I had to have. K had a huge home smoked salmon salad. Both were delicious. As we made our way back the weather changed dramatically with huge clouds descending on us and a big wind. K still managed to find her way into a local patchwork and quilting shop to buy some New Zealand fabrics. It only rained for a short while, but the change from the earlier brilliant sunshine was a shock.

We had a quiet night, having cooked some food, and spent some time in the TV room recharging the phones etc. Heading off about 10.30 am,  we travelled down the coast toward Christchurch.
