Onward to Mount Cook

Leaving the lake we drove up Mount John to see the views from the observatory at the top.  They were stunning and really reinforced how much the area needed rain.

After a brief stop at Lake Pukaki Visitor Centre for  look at the lake and some salmon sashimi, we took the marvellous drive up the side of the lake. After a brief stop at the brilliant Visitor Centre we made our way to the DOC campsite - White Horse Hill - close to the Hooker Valley. We parked up in view of glaciers and went for a walk to the Valley before we ate.

I cooked Butter Chicken with rice in the back of the van - it repeated on me all night!

The next day we drove back to the visitor centre before undertaking a longish walk to Kea Point.  It was a very warm day.  The views were amazing.  We left the area about two thirty,  and drove to a place named Kurow for the night.  It was about half way to Oamaru - which was where we were headed next.

We were just about the only campers on the site - which had a very 1960's feel - apart from some ducks to whom I was feeding porridge oats.
